Personality:
Naomi was once a young bright-eyed optimist, and why not? In her time, diseases thought to be incurable had finally be brought down by doctors and their determination, and through her own hard-work and determination, she managed to become a surgeon in the prestigious field. In time, she rose in the Japanese medical world, becoming renown for her incredible abilities. Unfortunately, after reviews of her operations, it was discovered that she has the Healing Touch, a mysterious ability that only the most skilled surgeons seem to awaken. Instead of receiving praise for this mystical ability which allowed her to save even the most critical patients, the medical board immediately dismissed her, stripped her of her license, and she was deported from her home country to America. Those bright eyes immediately began to change, darkening as she took another path to survive.
While always reserved by nature, Naomi withdrew from normal society almost entirely, acting the part of exchange doctor while operating for the medical terrorist organization, Delphi. She became cold, severing bridges before they could form and focusing on her task which was only survival at this point. On her honor, she worked for Delphi because they allowed her the right to continue operating even if it was due to illegal means. Still, she was more than aware of what she was doing to their human test subjects by elongating their lives. For however long she worked for them, she watched countless individuals suffer from the wicked man-made pathogens, but stayed her hands from curing them completely. She had broken her doctor's oath and she would never be the same, even after managing to escape to Caduceus EUROPE.
While in EUROPE, Naomi gained some of her smile back, befriending a number of the staff and even Derek Stiles and Angie Thompson when they came for a visit. Still, the past ate at her conscious and only a few knew the truth. Before operating on Derek, she's willing to reveal her past to him, if only because of doctor-patient confidentiality. Her entire escapade at EUROPE was really just a ruse with the director using her knowledge of GUILT being used to study its healing capabilities. She was doubtful though because anything with GUILT could only end in disaster. Not surprising to her at all when she turned out correct and ordered to operate later on both the director of Caduceus USA after he's infected and then, eliminate the source of all GUILT, Adam. Still, this was not enough to cure herself of the burden weighing on her shoulders. Shortly after both incidents, Naomi decided to invalidate herself from operating on anymore living people by infecting herself with an unknown GUILT and left Caduceus EUROPE.
Years later, it's revealed in Trauma Team that Naomi had begun working as a Medical Examiner somewhere in Maine. Her personality had notably become cynical, preferring to remain business professional and again, she continued to avoid forming anymore personal relationships. It didn't help that a new power had manifested, one that allowed her to hear the final words of the deceased. With her own time running short from her now diagnosed illness, she had resigned herself to her fate and kept herself from forming worldly connections. Still, the moment she began working with her new liaison Agent Navel, things began to change. Though cold towards him, some of her sharp tongue and wit returned if only to push the Agent away and keep him at arm's length. He weakened her guard however, to the point where, when she met Alyssa Breslin, Naomi couldn't keep herself from becoming attached to the young girl; so much so that, when she was caught in an explosion, Naomi's immediate responses were of panic and self-loathing for having Alyssa caught in her case. Finding out Alyssa lost her family and would be put into an orphanage, Naomi bargained to become her new mother, showing that she had regained some of her lost humanity.
From then on, Naomi revealed a warmer side, one that had disappeared years ago and she hadn't allowed since to shine through. She became very attentive and protective of her daughter, remaining at the hospital the young girl was admitted in, and only left due to extreme urgency (IE the Rosalia Virus outbreak). Even as Naomi's condition became complicated by the virus, she decided to hide it. Though she cares for Alyssa, she was still prepared to die and finally relieve the world of her existence. The FBI would just have to take care of Alyssa for her. Stumbling from Alyssa's room after tucking her to bed, Naomi knew death was coming, but for once, she didn't want to die. She wanted to live and try to obtain that happiness she was never allowed by keeping her promise to Alyssa.
Fortunately, the surgeon CR-S01 does manage to cure Naomi of both her terminal illness and the Rosalia Virus after the latter mutated the former. When she awakened from her operation, Naomi was in disbelief, but relieved to the point of tears as she embraced Alyssa. Finally, after years of being forced to run, she was finally allowed to live again. Though the doctor ends up more loving and warm, she still retains a cooler and more reserved demeanor, cautious of others in order to protect herself and her daughter.
